    Hi Rover Tasmania. I have just purchased a 1976 Franklin Hunter 10ft. Thankfully, have stumbled across your channel. All the problems your dads van had i can relate too😢. My plan is to start from the top (hatch) then either jrails or Windows (not sure which order yet) like you, i have no cover so work days with depend on weather conditions. Just wondering, seen as your renos were 7+ years ago, would you still recommend or use sikaflex marine for your sealant???? Hopefully your still replying to comments. I know people are still using your videos as guidance even though they were several years old now. Thank you.

      Hiya - the other caravan I restored (Viscount) I ended going back to butyl mastic. Much easier to use and clean, and its not an adhesive which means you can pull it apart. Only downside is that it goes hard and cracks, but thats after decades. Start with all outside sealing first, I would concentrate on the windows and hatch first,then j-rails last. All the best.

You do a fantastic job. (And mustn't forget dad to😅).I'm about to tackle the hatch. 1 grey interior skirting was missing, I successfully removed 1 and the other cracked. I think it had been glued up within the groove. Anyways, thanks for the great quality vids.

    I had my injector pump reconditioned in a 300 tdi but something is wrong. Very little power under 2000 rpm , foot to the floor and no respone, timing is all done right idles and sounds good . What is going on, should I get my mechanic to pull the unit off and send it back to the injector shop . Or is it just needing a tune, Don't they set-up the pump in the shop to work properly .( advises please).

    • @rovertasmania7033
      @rovertasmania7033 3 месяца назад

      300tdi is a mechanical pump, you can tweak yourself like I and many have before. Prob is you need an egt setup to measure exhaust temps so that you dont overfuel and melt pistons. Sounds like it not getting enough fuel perhaps if its been adjusted in the past. Obviously make sure all other things are correct, like clean air filter, new fuel filter and so on. Another issue perhaps is when the turbo kicks in, make sure the little elbow on the turbo doesnt collapse and suffacte the system. All these things are very well documented online so just go through each, starting with simple things like air filter check them off.

    It worked without removing the manifold, I just unscrewed the collar and replaced it in the process. When someone else does it, I removed the cabin filter housing, which helped with unscrewing the second bolt and putting it back on. The first one can be unscrewed between the manifold and the alternator. Instead of disconnecting the cable going to the cabin at the throttle body, it's better to disconnect it at the cabin and remove it altogether (mine was tightly seized and couldn't be removed under the manifold). The remaining two came off easily, only the one going upwards had the old throttle body socket in the harness, which I simply squeezed together with the harness and it came out. The old throttle body also broke off at the engine along with the gasket, so it had to be gently chipped away. When installing the new one, a tip is to attach a deeper screw to the thread, it's worth sticking it to your thumb with tape and inserting it like that, then use a small ratchet directed towards the cabin side to tighten it because that's the only way to reach it. It was a bit tricky and surely it's better to remove the manifold for the job, but I wanted to try it out for fun. If I were to do it again, it would definitely be quicker.

    Surely, the banjo ring has a recess inside so the one hole in your banjo bolt vents into the recess and down the line? High flow banjo bolts have two holes (eg a carb inlet on an SU carb), but single hole is more than enough for an air vent.

      @@rovertasmania7033 At 6:26 the bolt shows one hole on the side,. The fuel flows up the centre of the bolt, and out through this hole into the recess around the inside the banjo ring, then out the drain tube.

    Hey man, can you tell us the names of the tools we need to do this? So I can google them to buy them locally.

    Hi, I know this is a very long time after the video, but we are about to do the windows in our 69 Olympic. Just wondering did you replace the black felt seal and the actual seal that holds in the glass? Cheers

      Fantastic to see it being restored! I didnt change the seal, mine didnt leak. Of course change if its gone hard or cracked. Most seals are still available to buy. All the best.
